What is RAM and Why Does it Matter?
RAM, which stands for Random Access Memory, is your system's short-term memory. When you open a program, like a web browser or a word processor, your computer loads the necessary data from your slow, long-term storage (the hard drive or SSD) into the fast, temporary RAM. This allows the processor to access that data almost instantly, resulting in smooth and responsive performance. The more RAM you have, the larger your workspace. You can have more applications open simultaneously, switch between them seamlessly, and work with larger files without your computer slowing to a crawl. When RAM fills up, the system is forced to use a "swap file" on your storage drive, which is dramatically slower and causes noticeable lag.
